The Stellar Development Foundation has announced a burn of more than 55 billion of its Stellar Lumens (XLM); this is more than 50% of its total supply. This decision was reached to improve the efficiency of the development of the token.
Initially, there were 105 billion Stellar Lumens existing, with 20 billion in circulation. With the burn, the supply has shrunk to only 50 billion. The rest were being held by SDF; 17 tokens for SDF’s operations and 68 billion for SDF-administered giveaways meant to accelerate the adoption of the cryptocurrency. Still, the organization has 12 billion XLM for its operations, 6 billion for giveaways and 12 billion for its partnerships.
